Show Group Auditions are complete. Keep an eye out for our next auditions!

Hip Hop Crew Auditions are complete. Keep an eye out for our next auditions!

  • If you're looking for a kind and nurturing environment to pursue your passion for dance, then the SSOD Show Group and/or Hip Hop Crew are made for you!

We strive to push dancer's to be their very best - individually and as a team, but we always want to do so in a way that builds the dancers' abilities and confidence.

Competitions are so much more than winning a trophy - they're about making the most of the opportunity to grow as an individual AND a team! We strive for excellence and let the rest fall into place.

  • We want dancers to grow in their technique but also in their ability to work as a team! We encourage building each other up and empowering one another to better ourselves and as a team. We believe the following values make our team strong:

Communication • Professionalism • Modesty • Excellence • Fun • Pride in our Studio • Dedication

  • Dancers may audition to be a part of any of the following teams. They must be the age of the team AT the time of auditions:

    • Jazz Show Group 4-6

    • Jazz Show Group 7-8

    • Jazz Show Group 9-18

    • Contemporary Show Group 10-18

    • Hip Hop Crew 9-18

Jazz Show Group 9-18 and Hip Hop Crew 9-18 teams are divided by age and ability based performances at auditions.

  • Our season starts after auditions in mid-July after teams are selected and runs through Nationals which usually occur at the end of June.

**As a part of any SSOD team, your dancer is required to attend their weekly small group class, the production class(es) (Production is for Junior Show Group and up only), and an appropriate level ballet class. Additional classes may be required for those on Division 2 teams.

**SSOD Hip Hop Crew members will have their crew class and a required hip hop technique class, as well as additional classes for those on Division 2 teams or as the director feels necessary.

Attendance in these classes is necessary and absences can affect a dancer's ability to perform.

SSOD Show Group and Hip Hop Crew members are also expected to attend all competitions and conventions per the group calendars, which are shared at the beginning of the season.

** While most of their training will be done in weekly scheduled classes, there may be one-off days of choreography camp or additional training required on weekends to prepare. You will receive notice of these practices so you can plan.

  • On average, all teams will be required to attend 3-4 local competitions and 1 travel competition. Generally speaking, we try to keep regional competitions local and the National competition requires travel. This can vary. Competitions typically take place Jan-May.

Hip hop crew will participate in one hip hop only competition.

    Conventions
Conventions are an incredible way for a dancer to learn new techniques from new teachers, try new styles of dance, and grow their confidence both on and off the stage.

For the SSOD Show Group, there is one mandatory convention.

For the SSOD Hip Hop Crew, there is a mandatory Hip Hop only convention.

If you are on both (Show Group and Crew), your dancer(s) will be required to attend both conventions.

There will be opportunities to participate in other optional conventions.

  • At SSOD, we are so grateful you choose to dance with us. We know that competitive dance is costly so our promise to you is to be as transparent about costs as possible. Below are the average costs you can expect (beyond tuition which can be found on our pricing page). Please understand these costs can vary from competition to competition and are just estimates.

    Competitions:
    $65-85/dancer per group*
*If you dancer is in multiple numbers, this charge will apply per group number your dancer is in (i.e. Junior Show Group, Production, and Hip Hop Crew would cost $195-255 for one competition)

    Conventions:
    $275-385/convention

All competition and/or convention fees will be processed monthly starting in September. Competitions fill fast so we have to secure our spots early.

    Other Costs:
    Costumes ($85-$140 per costume)
    Choreography Workshops (varies)
    Team Backpack (around $90)
    Team Warm Ups ($80-$120)
    Class dancewear, shoes, etc.

These costs will be shared with you as they arise. We do try to give as much notice as possible, but for costumes especially, these costs vary greatly based on the selection. Please note costumes will need to be ordered soon after auditions to get them in for competition season.

  • After auditions, emails will be sent to the primary email on file notifiying you and your dancer of their placement. These emails generally come out the night of the auditions - but it often very late as we take our time to review each and every score and comment to ensure dancers are placed in the team where they will thrive and grow.

  • Congratulations! We are so excited to have you be a part of the SSOD family!

Following auditions, we will host a meeting for you to ask questions. After that meeting, we will schedule our mandatory Signing Day before the season begins. This is a special day for those who choose to commit to the SSOD teams for the next season. We will review our contract and share the heart and vision of the SSOD teams.

Following signing day, we will schedule choreography workshops. We try to do these before school begins so we can jump right into cleanings when classes starts in August.

  • If you are placed on an SSOD Show Team, you may choose to also do a solo or duet/trio. This is an additional commitment requiring additional costs/rehearsals outside of standard class time. All solos and/or duets/trios must be approved by the director.

Please note that competition fees for solo and/or duet/trios are higher than the group entries. Solos and/or duet/trios also have additional choreography and cleaning costs. Please see the director for more information.

We love performance! Community performances are at the heart of our studio.

All Show Group and Hip Hop Crew members should plan to attend one convention and all competitions.
All former Show Group and Hip Hop Crew members must reaudition every year.
